Whatever it is, yoga can help.
Why Yoga?
Yoga is an exquisite practice that dates back thousands of years. In the US today, it is mostly thought of as a physical practice, but ultimately yoga is a practice for the mind, body and spirit. Traditionally, yoga is a system with 8 limbs:
Asana - physical practice
Yama - Moral disciplines
Niyama - Internal Observances
Dhyana - Meditation
Dharana - Concentration
Pranayama - Breathwork
Pratyahara - Withdrawal of the senses
Samadhi - Bliss, enlightenment
In the end, we are all working towards enlightenment, towards bliss.
Benefits of yoga
Everyone benefits from yoga differently depending on where they are in their practice, their lives, and their beliefs. Heart Centered Wellness yoga classes, whether vinyasa or yin, incorporate all 8 limbs in each session. The benefits of a regular yoga practice are vast and include:
Ability to quiet the mind
Strengthens muscles and tones the physical body
Remove stagnant energy from the emotional body
Improves posture, respiration, energy and vitality
Can improve your circulation
Yoga is a powerful mindfulness practice
Contrary to what we often see on social media, there is no perfect yoga body, and there is no perfect yoga pose. One of the greatest things about a yoga practice, is that it meets you where you are, each time you arrive to your mat.
I find people are often hesitant to try yoga, or commit to a regular practice, often due to misconceptions about the physical ability needed, or that we must be able to completely clear our minds. Truly, yoga is an accessible, non judgmental, welcoming practice for all experience levels - the noisier the minds, the tighter the bodies, the more we need yoga!
