When Life Gets Messy: Embrace a Real-Life Reset

Real talk, my friends.

I’ll admit it, I haven’t been taking care of myself as well as I should. It’s not intentional - life just gets, well, busy. Between endless to-do lists, both personal and professional, and now that I’ve started teaching in-person yoga again, those precious non-work hours are slipping away faster than I’d like. Little things are chipping away at the foundation I’ve worked so hard to build over the past six months.

How, you ask? Well, first up—I’m not getting enough sleep. If I had a dollar for every time I told myself “just one more chapter” before bed, I’d probably be on a beach somewhere right now, guilt-free. But instead, here I am, running on less than 7 hours of sleep, and shocker—it’s not helping.

Then there’s the food. I’d love to say I’ve been killing it in the kitchen, but the truth is, I’ve been eating out more and mindlessly snacking on processed foods. Crackers, chips, you name it—it’s all too easy when you’re in a rush.

The one thing keeping me afloat right now? My workouts. I’ve stayed consistent, mainly because I’m training for a 10k in October. But here’s the thing—running well doesn’t just mean clocking in the miles; it means bringing everything together. Sleep. Nutrition. Stress management. It’s a full-body commitment.

So, where does that leave me? Honestly, I feel... off. My body feels sluggish, my stress levels are higher, and my usual sense of balance is nowhere to be found. It’s a little surreal to think that this used to be my normal—feeling tired, stressed, and disconnected.

But here’s the truth: we all go through these phases. Life isn’t perfect—it’s messy. And when something disrupts our routine, things can start to unravel. But the beauty of being human is knowing that we can pull ourselves back together. That’s where our resilience kicks in. We already know what works for us and what doesn’t. The real work comes when it’s time to reset.

Here’s how I’m doing it, and maybe you will too:

Be kind to yourself. Seriously, don’t waste time beating yourself up. We’ve all slipped—it happens. Support yourself the way you would your best friend, with kindness and grace. Berating yourself? That’s so early 2000s. Let it go.

Start small. It’s not realistic to get back on track overnight. Pick one thing, just one, to focus on for a couple of days. For me? It’s sleep. I’m committing to 7-8 hours a night again, no excuses.

Ask for help. This one’s big, ladies. We’re conditioned to think we have to do it all, and that’s why burnout hits us so hard. Reach out—whether it’s a friend to vent to or someone who can help lighten the load. You’d be surprised how often people are willing to step up, no judgment attached.

Maybe it’s ironic I’m writing this on a Monday, the unofficial day to start fresh. But I got 8 hours and 13 minutes of sleep last night, and I’m taking that as a win. So here I am, moving in the right direction.

Now tell me - what’s one small change you’ll make this week to get yourself back on track?
